FAWCO News September 2018

Dear Fawco friends,

I hope that you are enjoying the summer and taking time to travel, participate in summer activities, reconnect with family and friends, or maybe you are simply having a break!

Save the date!

Biennial Conference 2019, hosted by AWC of Central Scotland will take place in Edinburgh.  Mark your diary for Thursday, March 21 to Sunday, March 24, 2019 for this major Conference.  At the Conference the new Resolutions and Recommendations will be introduced (R&Rs). The R&Rs are guidelines for FAWCO and Member Club  action over the next two-year period and should be suitable for practical implementation. The R&R committee will be meeting and working to develop the R&Rs for 2019 – 2021 and would like to invite all members to take a little time this summer to review the current R&Rs and send us your thoughts. What do you think needs to be updated? What changes would you like to see? Is there something new that you would like to see included?

You can find the R&Rs for 2017-2019 on the FAWCO website, www.fawco.org

Inspiring Women

I hope that you all received a copy of the Summer edition of Fawco’s online magazine Inspiring Women, which featured Women of Words and Language and included a profile of AWG member Sheila.  If you missed it, go to the Fawco website and look at the publications or contact me and I can send you a link.

 inspiring women

The fall issue will present the profiles of women from clubs who through their insistence and their persistence, they have set out to right a wrong, elevate justice, and make the case for a better human condition. Perhaps they have had a role in Women’s rights, poverty, hunger, health or the environment, a woman who could not walk away…If you want to nominate someone from AWG who you think fits this description, please tell me or Rachel asap.

Book Read for the Summer- Educated by Tara Westover

You may have already chosen all your summer reading but I would like to highlight the Education Team Summer 2018 Global Book Read-called Educated - A Memoir, by Tara Westover, which was an instant Number 1 New York Times bestseller! It is about Tara's quest for education against all odds. For further details go to the June 2018 Education Bulletin on the Fawco website. If enough of our members are interested in reading this memoir perhaps I will host a little literary event  in  honor of September as Literacy Month to discuss this book, education and perhaps  have a little book bring and buy sale.

Please email me if you want any more information about FAWCO in general, about development grants, education awards, on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Have a great month and see you in September,
