FAWCO News October 2018

FAWCO Information update on AWGLR website

I have now managed to update the information about FAWCO on our website so please have a look.  You can learn more information about what FAWCO does worldwide, its programs and how they can help our club and you as an individual.  There are many direct links to pages on the FAWCO website on Global Issues, US and UN issues, and The FAWCO Foundation. And I would encourage you to have a little browse around the FAWCO website to really get to know FAWCO. Please let me know if you have any difficultly in accessing any of the links. I have also included many new articles on FAWCO publications, the upcoming conference, the Target Program which we have fundraised for and the FAWCO Youth Program.  Please read the article on the FAWCO Youth Program 2018, which includes Augustin’s essay on his experience in Berlin this summer https://www.awglr.org/about-fawco/fawco-articles

FAWCO Foundation – Development Grants and Education Awards 2019 and Friendship Quilt Squares

The Development Grant and Education Award applications will be available at the end of the month on the FAWCO Foundation website www.fawcofoundation.org  You can take a look at the 2018 watermarked application to see what you will need (from both the club and the charity you will be supporting) in order to complete the application.
Are you, or one of your children or grandchildren planning to apply for a 2019 Education Award?  The applications will be available at the end of this month.
There have been some recent changes which may allow everyone greater flexibility in applying

The deadline for submission of quilt squares for the 2019 Friendship Quilt is October 10th so you still have time to complete your square and send it to Roberta Zöllner.  The theme, honoring Education, is “Tell me A Story!”  You can download the instructions for the quilt from the Foundation website on its homepage : https //www.fawcofoundation.org/

Voting- A message from FAWCO US Liaison

The deadline to register to vote is approaching. Your local election official should receive your application at least 45 days before the midterm elections, to be held on November 6, 2018. That means you need to submit your application now.

How to Register to Vote

Go online to the FAWCO Overseas Vote Foundation page, the Federal Voting Assistance Program, or directly to the Overseas Vote Foundation website. FAWCO makes it easy for you (and even non-FAWCO members) to register to vote and request your absentee ballot through the dedicated link to OVF via the red check mark on the FAWCO home page.

Why You Should Vote

First, as a US citizen and eligible voter, you have the right to vote wherever you live in the world. And voting is your chance to draw lawmakers’ attention to the many issues affecting overseas Americans that need to be addressed. FAWCO, the Association of Americans Resident Overseas (AARO) and American Citizens Abroad (ACA) work together to urge Congress and the White House to address the issues about which overseas Americans care most. To learn more, go to the FAWCO US Voting web pages.
