Overview of activities
AWG-LR is a very active social club! Our members suggest, plan, and run a variety of activities from walks, to museum visits, to cooking classes, to Book Group, to Writer's Block, and beyond!
In addition to our regular activities, which are detailed below, our members get together several times a year for special events.
We love to celebrate during these larger gatherings!
Whether it's for a cause - International Women's Rights Day, FAWCO fundraising event, etc... - or just a get together around traditional American Holidays, such as Thanksgiving or Fourth of July, our members are always happy to gather and share these major events. We also have AWG-LR's Anniversary Luncheon in May, which gives us the opportunity to meet up with Dora, our founder, who participates every year and has been doing so for over 30 years.
Last year, nine such events (apéros, tea partiesm shared meals...) took place, giving our members many opportunities to enjoy each other's company, eat and drink, share a cause, and just generally have fun!
Walking Groups:
Between the Beach Babes, who walk along our region's lovely beaches, and the Walking Group, with walks for every level of participant, this activity has something for everyone!
Talk & Sit/Coffee Chat:
Whether it was during the language exchanges, coffee chats, or other "sit & chat" events, this year our members showed they still love to get together for some active discussion!
Book Group
Book group meets once a month (except over July & August) to discuss that month's read. Members don't always like the same books, but they always love sharing their thoughts with each other!
Writer's Bloc
The group was developed for people who enjoy writing as well as provide a forum for them to be able to stimulate the exercise of writing.
Cook & Eat
The Cook & Eat group gets together regularly to cook a 3-course meal and then enjoy the fruits of their efforts, generally with a glass or two of wine, all in a spirit of good camaraderie.
Cultural Outings
Members who wish to do so can organize cultural outings - or simply join in on one organized by someone else! Whether this means exploring a museum, going to a wine tasting, seeing how oysters are raised, or any activity in between, members are sure to find like-minded souls to join them on their outing.
Lending Library & Scrabble
The clubhouse is regularly open for members to drop in and borrow/return books from the lending library. You can also buy "FAWCO books", benefits of which are donated to the FAWCO Foundation.
We also suggest extending your pleasure by playing Scrabble in French or English (we have both) or any board game you may bring.
